Career

Our country holds a highly significant geological position in terms of both its natural resources and its natural hazard potential. The accurate and efficient utilization of geological resources, alongside the mitigation of geological hazard risks (earthquakes, floods, landslides, etc.), must remain among our country's top priorities. The primary applications carried out within this scope include:

  • Investigating the formation, physical, chemical, and mechanical properties of the Earth, as well as exploring and developing natural resources (minerals, petroleum, coal, and industrial raw materials),

  • Exploration, development, and management of groundwater resources,

  • Site selection for various engineering structures (dams, tunnels, roads, etc.), along with the investigation and analysis of construction materials,

  • Identification of natural hazards and the development of risk reduction measures.

These applications can only be effectively realized on the foundation of geological science within the framework of engineering principles. Formed through geological processes, the Cappadocia region contributes significantly to our country's tourism economy. Located in a region that serves as a natural geological laboratory due to its unique geological structure, our department's graduates can pursue careers in the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the State Hydraulic Works (DSİ), the Directorate General of Mining Affairs, the Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change and its affiliated directorates, İller Bankası, municipalities, the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA), BOTAŞ, Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO), and their subsidiaries. Furthermore, our graduates can establish private consulting firms to prepare geotechnical application projects, or participate in major engineering structure projects (dams, tunnels, roads, etc.).
